Code Driven Planning with Domain-Adaptive Critic (CoPiC)" proposes a novel framework that enhances task planning by large language models (LLMs) for complex environments. CoPiC reduces the high querying costs typical of iterative plan refinement by generating multiple high-level planning programs that produce diverse candidate plans. A domain-adaptive critic then evaluates these plans to select the one best aligned with long-term rewards. The system iteratively refines these programs using reinforcement learning, improving both efficiency and plan quality. Evaluated in ALFWorld, NetHack, and StarCraft II, CoPiC shows significant improvements in success rate (over 20%) and reduces token costs by nearly 80%, outperforming prior LLM-based planners and supporting both closed-source and open-source LLMs. This approach bridges the gap between LLM general knowledge and environment-specific needs, enabling more effective and cost-efficient planning.
