Neuralink does a livestream

Neuralink, the brain-computer interface company founded by Elon Musk, has made significant progress in its development of technology that enables individuals with paralysis to control external devices with their thoughts. The company recently showcased its first human patient, Noland Arbaugh, a 29-year-old who was paralyzed below the shoulders after a diving accident. Arbaugh demonstrated the ability to play chess on a computer using a Neuralink implant that translates his brain activity into cursor movements on the screen.

Arbaugh received the Neuralink implant in January and has since been able to control a computer mouse and play video games using his thoughts. The implant, described as a "Telepathy" device, is around the size of a coin and is implanted into a small hole in the skull. It connects to the brain via thin, threaded electrodes that transmit brain signals wirelessly to an external device, allowing Arbaugh to control a computer cursor and engage in activities such as playing chess and video games.

The demonstration of Arbaugh playing chess and controlling music on his laptop was livestreamed on X (formerly known as Twitter), drawing significant attention and showcasing the potential of Neuralink's technology to restore autonomy to individuals with paralysis. Arbaugh described the experience as intuitive, likening it to using "The Force" from the Star Wars franchise to move the cursor wherever he wanted on the screen.

GPT-5

The highly anticipated release of OpenAI's next-generation language model, GPT-5, is generating excitement among testers and enterprise customers alike. Reports suggest that the launch could happen as early as this summer, with demos already impressing CEOs who describe the model as "materially better" than its predecessor, GPT-4. GPT-5 is expected to bring significant improvements, including enhanced interaction with other AI programs, although the specific launch date remains unannounced as OpenAI continues training and testing the model for potential issues. Despite speculation from various sources, including Business Insider and Ars Technica, about a summer release, the exact timing and capabilities of GPT-5 remain largely speculative.
