DeepMind's AlphaGenome: AI DNA Predictor
DeepMind debuts AlphaGenome for DNA variant prediction, ElevenLabs launches Voice Design v3, and WhatsApp rolls out AI-powered private message summaries in June 2025.
This Week in AI & Tech: From DNA to DMs, the Future is Getting Smarter
June 2025 has delivered a wave of cutting-edge AI breakthroughs across biology, communication, and creativity. Google DeepMind has unveiled AlphaGenome, a revolutionary model capable of predicting how genetic mutations impact biological functions at unprecedented scale and precision — a leap forward for genomic science. Meanwhile, ElevenLabs is redefining voice AI with Voice Design v3, letting anyone craft hyper-realistic, production-ready voices just by describing them. And on the messaging front, WhatsApp has introduced Message Summaries, an AI-powered feature that privately condenses unread messages so users can instantly catch up without scrolling through every chat.
From decoding DNA to designing voices and distilling conversations, the future of AI is more personal, powerful, and privacy-conscious than ever.
DeepMind’s Breakthrough AI for DNA Variant Prediction

Google DeepMind in June 2025, is a groundbreaking AI model designed to predict how single DNA variants or mutations impact a wide array of biological processes that regulate genes, offering a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of genome function than previous models. By analyzing up to 1 million DNA base pairs at single-letter resolution, AlphaGenome can predict thousands of molecular properties, such as gene start and end points, RNA production, and protein binding sites, across diverse cell types and tissues. It leverages advanced neural architectures, combining convolutional layers and transformers, to detect both short and long-range patterns in DNA, and can efficiently score the effects of genetic variants by comparing mutated and unmutated sequences. AlphaGenome stands out for its ability to jointly predict multiple modalities, including novel modeling of RNA splice junctions, and has demonstrated state-of-the-art performance across genomic benchmarks, outperforming or matching specialized models in nearly all tasks. While not intended for clinical or personal genome prediction, AlphaGenome is available via API for non-commercial research, supporting disease understanding, synthetic biology, and fundamental genomics research, though challenges remain in modeling very distant regulatory elements and capturing complex, tissue-specific patterns
ElevenLabs Launches Voice Design v3 for Next-Gen AI Voices

ElevenLabs has launched Voice Design v3 (alpha), a powerful upgrade to its AI voice generation platform that allows users to create any voice imaginable simply by describing it in a prompt. The new model delivers higher quality and a broader expressive range, enabling the generation of production-ready voices in over 70 languages with hundreds of localized accents. Users can customize voices by specifying tone, accent, age, pacing, and delivery, making it possible to design unique characters for storytelling, media, or business needs. The platform includes a voice design editor, a prompting guide, and will soon offer API access for integration into products and workflows. Voice Design v3 is currently available for free to try on the ElevenLabs dashboard, making advanced, human-like AI voice creation more accessible and versatile than ever before.
WhatsApp Unveils Private Message Summaries

WhatsApp has introduced Message Summaries, a new feature powered by Meta AI that privately and quickly summarizes unread messages in a chat, helping users catch up on conversations without reading every message in detail. Using Private Processing technology, these summaries are generated without Meta or WhatsApp ever seeing your messages or the summaries themselves, ensuring complete privacy—no one else in the chat is notified when you use this feature. Message Summaries is optional, off by default, and can be enabled for specific chats using Advanced Chat Privacy settings. The feature is currently rolling out in English to users in the United States, with plans to expand to other languages and regions later in 2025.
